Below is a list of websites that contain useful information and tips about lawn care and gardening.
Gardening and Lawn Tips
1. Install new sod IMMEDIATELY! Do not get your new sod until you are ready for it. Make sure proper ground prep has been done prior to getting sod. Sod is a living plant and is extremely perishable! With the hot weather that summer brings, sod will dry up and start to show signs of stress very quickly if left rolled up on the pallet or installed and not watered immediately. Signs of stress include a grayish color to the sod and brittleness to the blades. It is imperative that you install your new sod as quickly as possible in order for the transplant to be successful.
2. Water your new sod IMMEDIATELY after installation. How much water is enough? You want to flood the newly installed sod with lots of water. Think of the sod as a sponge. After you water, the sod should be plump and squishy, with water coming out of it, just as a sponge does when wet. For LARGE areas, install and water in 1,200 square foot sections (2 pallets), if possible. Do not let the sod sit on the pallets before installing. Also do not lay the sod and let it sit before watering it. It will die quickly. Please adjust your schedule to allow time to water immediately after installing your new sod.
These tips will improve the chances for successful transplant (rerooting of the sod into your prepared soil) and give you a beautiful, healthy lawn.
Is now a good time for sod?
Yes, now is a GREAT time for sod! Tall Fescue is a cool season crop, so it does well in the cooler weather! We harvest our sod all year around, as long as the ground is not frozen or covered in snow!
What is the price of your sod?
Due to varying rates and discounts available, please contact us to inquire about pricing. Please contact us to inquire about Contractor and Military rates also!
Delivery is available within the Northern Virginia area. Minimum requirements may apply for certain locations. Please allow 2-3 days notice for delivery scheduling.
Delivery is to the curb only. If we are asked to spot the pallets and the truck gets stuck, it is your responsiblity.
How much sod is on a pallet?
Each pallet has 60 rolls which cover 600 square feet.
How much does the sod weigh?
The sod weighs approximately 25-30 lbs. per roll. Each pallet of sod will weigh approximately 2000 lbs. Please keep in mind that sod will be heavier after rain.
Do you charge a deposit on the wooden skids (pallets)?
There is an $8.00 pallet deposit if you take the wooden skid with you. When you bring the pallet back, we will refund you the $8.00 deposit. This refund is only offered on pallets that you pay a deposit for. We do not accept mulch, brick, stone pallets or any other misc. pallet as we use a custom made pallet to work with our specialized equipment. Please bring in your receipt when returning pallets. Thank you!
Please note that after seeding, we lay a green plastic netting - which stays with the sod when we harvest. This helps to keep seed in place and increase the overall strength and quality of sod. this is a standard practice in our industry. Because the netting stays in place, if sod dies or becomes thin or bare, this netting will show through. It can be easily cut if needed.
